Thematic Groups
The Human Development and Capability Association encourages researchers who share common interests to organize thematic groups. At present, sixteen thematic groups are active. If you are involved in a similar thematic group, or if you would like to start one, please read and complete the following document and hence contact us at info@hd-ca.org. Please know that the thematic groups currently work only in English.
| The Capability and Education Network (CAEN) began meeting in 2003 and became the HDCA Education Thematic Group in 2005. It aims at promoting and supporting: (i) the work of scholars, students and practitioners using the capability approach in the field of education; and (ii) the work of the HDCA. The network is open to HDCA members and non-members alike to discuss work in progress and emerging new ideas and it is a particularly useful forum for students to share their work with a wider audience. Outcomes of our work include Amartya Sen's Capability Approach and Social Justice in Education (edited by Melanie Walker and Elaine Unterhalter) and special issues of the journals Prospero and Studies in Philosophy and Education. Further publications are planned for the future. Regular network meetings are held in the UK (typically in February, June and October) and rotate between the Institute of Education in London and the Von Hügel Institute in Cambridge. Colleagues from outside the UK are always welcome at these meetings (network members from Germany, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands and Spain have given presentations at previous meetings) so please let us know if you intend visiting the UK and wish to share your work with us. Presentations and papers are circulated via the network list to enable the involvement of members from around the world who are unable to attend these meetings. We are also keen to encourage network meetings in other countries and will announce these, as well as other education-related information, below and via the network mailing list. |
| If you would like to join this group click here. You will need to be logged in, and you must be a current HDCA member. |

Call for Updating Education and Capability Approach Bibliography - Update Call
| CALL FOR UPDATING THE CAPABILITY AND EDUCATION THEMATIC GROUP BIBLIOGRAPHY Dear all, The only bibliography we have to date was compiled in 2005. Many things have changed in the last 6 years including an increased interest in applying the capability approach to education. For this reason, it would be worthwhile to update the bibliography so that we have a better idea of how our field of inquiry has developed, and to plan future developments. The first stage of the project is to compile an annotated bibliography. To do this, we need your support. Please send us information about your work. We are looking for the following: - Books - Book chapters - Journal articles - Conference papers - PhD or Master theses Please include all reference details, a short abstract, and up to five keywords if possible. Please send the references to: Cristina Devecchi cristina.devec...@northampton.ac.uk Bharat Rout bharatrout...@gmail.com Subject: HDCA Education bibliography Thank you very much for your support and I look forward to receiving more information about your work. Those who have responded to our earlier email on updating CAEN bibliography, they may ignore this message. Take care Bharat Rout Behalf of Cristina Devecchi Co-convener CAEN-HDCA | |
